The Challenge

The water district for Plainfield, Indiana was looking for alternatives to phone modems for monitoring and control of the district tanks, valves and pump stations.  They needed a firm to evaluate the feasibility of using radio communications to fulfill that need.

The Solution

Frakes Engineering was hired to perform a site survey and perform field testing with proposed equipment.  Our engineers visited each site, gathering GPS data and evaluating the site for available antenna heights.  This data was entered into a Terrain Analysis Profile software application.  Using this software we generated line of sight profiles and simulation models.  Remote sites were re-visited with the proposed radio equipment and field testing was used on a representative sample to verify the results of the computer study.
